The Northern New England Node joined the Clinical Trials Network
in September 2002. This Node is a partnership between clinical
addiction researchers at McLean Hospital at Harvard Medical School (the Regional
Research and Training Center (RRTC)), other universities, and CTPs located
in five New England states Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode
Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Together, the CTPs had over
48,000 admissions in 2001 for substance use disorders. The CTPs
provide services to an ethnically diverse patient population with
a variety of substance use disorders in rural, suburban, and urban
locales. Special populations include individuals with comorbid
psychiatric and medical illnesses, HIV-infected individuals, adolescents,
pregnant women, and individuals involved with the criminal justice
system
